The ʿĀlimiyyah Course (Islamic Theology and Arabic Language)
The main aim of our six-year ʿĀlimiyyah Course is to produce home-grown Islamic scholars who are able to serve their communities in a variety of ways, whilst being sensitive to the cultural norms and experiences of British Muslims.
As such, only pupils who are interested in gaining this qualification stay on to complete the ʿĀlimiyyah programme; other students move on to other providers to embark on A-Levels or technical qualifications. Some students join us from other education providers to specifically enrol on this course.
The ʿĀlimiyyah programme is a challenging course – the Islamic sciences, Arabic & Urdu are studied to an advanced level. Completion can take graduates straight into employment as madrasah teachers.
Urdu is used as a medium to deliver content throughout the course, in varying degrees of complexity, according to the specific year of the course.
Qualification level
Universities vary in what level they consider the ʿĀlimiyyah qualification to be, ranging from at least Level 3 onwards. Many universities will allow access to certain courses based on completion of the ʿĀlimiyyah programme. We consider the ʿĀlimiyyah course to be equivalent to a Level 6 qualification.
